Mengnan (Mandarin for Strongman) is a journey that explores electronic sounds from the late 70s all the way to the 2000s.

I began working on this project March of 2022. Up to this point I've been exclusively releasing singles, so an album was an exciting new challenge to me.

What would the main theme be? I didn’t want to create a bunch of 500-mph-tracks the way I approach making singles. I wanted more of a diversified experience, so I started to play around with ideas and came up with small starting points for different kinds of songs. I was also listening to a wide variety of genres: music from Kraftwerk, Iron Maiden, Michael Jackson, La Bouche, Macintosh Plus, game OSTs such as Contra, Castlevania and much more.

The album started to come together in late August, and I ended up with nine songs that reflected what I’ve been up to during the process.

It has been a lot of fun and a great learning experience making this album, I hope it reflects.
